Strade Bianche Grand Fondo, on Sunday 3rd of March 2024, Mr. Thompson cycled 140 km. There were 2,200 meters of elevation and there were sectors of Strade Bianche which amounted to 40 km. He completed it in a time of 5 hours and 38 minutes.
When asked about how he felt about his performance in this year's race, Mr. Thompson replied, "The race was incredibly tough as the terrain was very hilly. But the scenery was beautiful and to be surrounded by so many fellow cyclists was inspirational. I also did it with my good friend and former IS Siena teacher Mr Warner."
The History of Strade Bianche
This event is called Strade Bianche because it goes
through the whole of Tuscany and Tuscany has loads of elevation, unpaved roads which makes it harder to cycle and cycling on Tuscany's white dirt. Therefore, it is called Strade Bianche. In 2017, the Strade Bianche was included in the UCI World Tour which is cycling's highest level of professional races. This year, Tadej Pogačar won the Strade Bianche 2024!!!!
